'John Dickson is a well-informed, eloquent speaker and I thoroughly enjoyed this event'
'Very engaging and articulate lecture on a culturally relevant topic'
'Brilliant and inspirational'
These were just some of the comments made about the 2011 Perth Smith Lecture delivered by Dr John Dickson. John addressed the question, 'Would we be better off without religion?' and answered it from the perspective of history. While John conceded that evils have been done in Jesus' name he refuted the claim that 'religion poisons everything', arguing instead that such evils are frequently exaggerated in magnitude, not representative of Christianity in general and, most importantly, gross digression from Jesus' own standard. John went on to outline some of the debts we owe to Jesus today including unparalleled care for the poor and foreign aid. The question time pushed towards implications of alternative world views and even speculation about the future.
A DVD of the lecture will be available to purchase for $20. To place an order contact Paul Whitfield using the pane to the right.
