Two of our staff team recently put their bodies on the line to raise money for relief work. Ian Powell committed to eating only two cups of rice per day for 5 days. His mini famine pointed to the dire need in Somalia and Kenya. Peter Kaldor took part for the 5th consecutive time in the Oxfam 100km Trailwalker as part of the City Bible Forum team.
Friends could sponsor Ian on an increasing scale per day. This gave him the motivation to keep going for the five days. Ian kept up a heavy workload during this week and also carried a head cold, so the challenge was not insubstantial. He was relieved to break the rice diet at a men's breakfast in Geelong where he was the guest speaker! So far friends have donated over $7,000 to World Vision and the UNHCR.
City Bible Forum has entered a team in the past four Oxfam Trailwalker events in Sydney. New to the team this year was Andrew Charleston, a regular attendee at the CBF Legal breakfasts at Silks. After 16 hours and 20 minutes out on the trail, the team crossed the line as the 4th complete team to the welcome relief of the waiting families. Over $5,000 has been donated to Oxfam through their efforts.
