Bodies on the Line

Two of our staff team recently put their bodies on the line to raise money for relief work

Two of our staff team recently put their bodies on the line to raise money for relief work. Ian Powell committed to eating only two cups of rice per day for 5 days. His mini famine pointed to the dire need in Somalia and Kenya. Peter Kaldor took part for the 5th consecutive time in the Oxfam 100km Trailwalker as part of the City Bible Forum team.

Career-wise women's conference

Each year, City Bible Forum organises the Career-wise conference to address issues particularly relevant to working women. In 2009 the topic was work/life balance, and leadership in 2010. Issues are addressed from both a professional and a faith perspective.

The 2011 conference was held on August 18 and dealt with the issue of confidence. Jenny Brown, Director of the Family Systems Institute, spoke on what is confidence, when does it become a problem, and how do we build realistic confidence. I spoke on what faith brings to confidence.

Panel: Why did I do that?

Our public discussion panel in August was on the topic of "Why did I do that?"

Our public discussion panel in August was on the topic of "Why did I do that?". The panel addressed the question of what is it that motivates us to do what we do.

The title was drawn from the title of the opening chapter in Hugh Mackay's most recent book What makes us tick? Hugh, a noted social commentator, was joined on the panel by Tanveer Ahmed, SMH columnist and psychiatrist, and Al Stewart, a well-regarded Christian speaker.

Connect

"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and praise your Father in heaven"

– Jesus

The city thrives on workers connecting for commerce, entertainment, relationships, exercise and the like. It also provides a wonderful context for Christian people to connect with one another.

The City Bible Forum supports Christian people who wish to translate their faith into everyday action in the workplace.

With many years of corporate experience between us we know that just dealing with the day-to-day can be a real challenge. But there is definitely more to life than long hours in the office, crowds, queues, and late trains!
