What does it mean to follow Jesus?
Jesus calls on people to follow him. But what does that mean? How does someone follow him? Here are some ideas which might help...
- Meet with someone one-to-one: Meeting with someone who can explain what it means to follow Jesus is the most direct way to understand Jesus' call. That person can answer your particular questions, or suggest ways forward which suit you. To set up a meeting, contact one of our staff in your city. We will arrange for someone to meet you. We will always ensure that you are in control of this process. We will always respect your privacy and your wishes.
- Look at resources available online: Meeting someone can be daunting, so perhaps you would find it easier to look at some resources which are available online. There are many available, but for your convenience we've included some useful links here: the text of the Bible; an explanation of the Christian message; and a forum for asking your questions about Jesus and the Bible. The Centre for Public Christianity promotes the public understanding of Christianity; their site is well worth a visit.
- Read the Bible yourself: The gospel of Mark is the best place to start reading the Bible. It's short. It's all about Jesus. And it asks the sorts of questions which are helpful for people to consider as they start reading the Bible: Who is Jesus? What is his mission? How should I respond to him?
- Pray: The Bible says that those who follow Jesus will become children of God. If Jesus offers us such a relationship, then it's appropriate to talk to God. Ask him to show you whether Jesus is truly the way to God. Many people have found God answers that prayer.
