BLINDSPOT #2: "The gospel is offensive"
The good news of Jesus is only good news to those who are sinners. As Jesus said “it’s not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick”. Jesus’ call is for people to do a U-turn - to repent and believe - and this is necessarily offensive.
But as offensives as Jesus’ message is, Jesus isn’t always offensive. For some he is overtly offensive but for others he isn’t and there are times when he chooses not to be offensive when he could. What is happening here? Perhaps, as we’ve read the Bible, has a bias and blindspot developed in our beliefs, practices and habits? Is the way we proclaim the good news unintentionally lopsided?
Have we been unnecessarily offensive in Jesus’ name when we didn’t need to be?
Join us for Blindspot #2: “The gospel is offensive" - as we calmly and clearly call out our blindspots. Come hear how two workers had to wrestle with this blindspot and see how Jesus, His Spirit and the community left them with a better vision of Jesus, themselves and others around them.
HEADshot: Targeting our blindspots
Blindspots, by definition, are areas you can’t see. When applied to life, there are statements we believe, sayings we hold true, practices we assume are healthy but we can’t see that they are under-developed, unhelpful and sometimes, untrue. During times like these, we all need someone like Yusuf - someone to calmly, clearly and simply target our blindspots and call us out … all with one hand in their pocket. During Headstart’s Term 4, we will be channelling our inner Yusuf as we target 4 blindspots common to young workers and calling them out calmly, clearly and simply.
Join us this term because we have those better than Yusuf - Jesus, His Spirit and each other.
