THE TOXIC TRAP: How did it get to this?

Join a community of Christian young workers at Headstart as we seek to outmanoeuvre the moments workers feel trapped
15 Jul 2024

As Christian workers, there are moments when we feel stuck and stifled. It can be in the workplace with career decisions and poor performance reviews, but it also can be outside of work - in friendships and romance. When these moments hit, we feel there is no way out - we are headlocked. But that is not the end. Often, if left unchecked, these moments accumulate ever so slowly and sinisterly until breaking point. At this time, it’s often too late - it’s become personal and there’s collateral too. The damage of breaking the lock is hefty.

Is there a way to call out these moments early, before it’s too late? When the headlock comes and we feel the squeeze, can we counter the move and shift its own force against itself? How can we outmanoeuvre these moments and so avoid being trapped?

Join us for Headstart Term 3 - HEADLOCKED: outmanoeuvring the moments workers feel trapped, where we see how faith in Jesus releases us from being headlocked and allows us to head out more nimble and mobile than before.

HEADlocked #3: THE TOXIC TRAP

Our habits can ensnare us. We all make thousands of small, trivial decisions every day. Gladly, many go unnoticed, but some develop into something more. At first, these decisions seem innocent. But slowly, they become more toxic. Whether its revenge bedtime procrastination so you’re always more tired and irritable the next day, doomscrolling which feeds a warped negativity, or suppressing your true feelings out of Christian love only to lash out later - these micro-habits have the power of addictions but don’t get the airtime like drugs, gambling and pornography. Like termites, these micro-habits eat away at our souls and when it hits us, the simple question is: how did it get to this?

Come join us and hear how two workers have became headlocked but also how faith in Jesus releases us from this and allows us to head out more nimble and mobile than before. And the Headstart spice - this is not just a you problem, it’s an us problem. We’ll have two workers share vulnerably on their unhealthy micro-habits and how they felt stuck.
