In her youth Sri was a nominal Christian. She attended church regularly with her family, but really didn’t study God’s word or know His character. When she reached adulthood, she stopped going to church altogether. She told herself that she would eventually study Christianity, Islam and Judaism, and perhaps pick one that seemed closest to the truth.
At a chance encounter with Grace Huang from City Bible Forum, she asked if Sri would be interested in studying the Bible. At first hesitant, she accepted. This proved to be the catalyst to Sri’s journey back to God. She had never before read the Bible in an intentional and disciplined way. “I was engrossed!” she confessed, “I was inspired, and admittedly sometimes confused about what I read.”
When Grace returned to university, Caroline Spencer took her place as Sri’s mentor. It was no small task taking on this role.
Sri confessed, “I would sometimes become frustrated and feisty during our discussions. With the patience of a saint, Caroline pointed out relevant Bible texts to help me, and gave me other books to read.”
Finally, something just clicked. She says it wasn’t dramatic, “I just suddenly realized that I was at a peaceful place with the Bible and (almost all) Christian precepts. For example, I now understand and accept a notion of predestination that is rooted in the Bible and compatible with a humanistic view of God as just.”
So, after one year of Bible study, how has her life changed? “I know God exists,“ she says, “I am no longer agnostic. I want to continue learning more about Him and further develop my relationship with Him.” Sri has recently moved back to San Francisco and already misses her mentors. She is so grateful for the pivotal role they played in bringing her back to the Lord.
