Hope for our City - 2018 launch

Wednesday February 7th, 1.30pm to 2.20pm

Christians have a message of great hope for our city: Jesus.

Jesus transforms lives, work places and work practices. Come and hear how we can work together to reach our city with this message of hope.

The apostle Peter challenges us to always be ready to explain our hope in Jesus.

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have" 1 Peter 3:15

The difference hope makes

Hope can change the future, and it can change our experience of now

In Shawshank Redemption, Red tells Andy - 'Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.' Andy's reply decades later is 'Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.'

Which is it? Do we need to hope? Or should we give up on hope?

In eastern thought hope is the illusion that keeps us suffering, western thought holds out hope for hope. But why what difference does hope make?

City Bible Forum in Brisbane

We welcome everyone to discuss the bigger questions with us regardless of their beliefs

We welcome everyone to discuss the bigger questions with us regardless of their beliefs.

The City Bible Forum has been operating in Brisbane since mid 2007. Glenn Hohnberg started as director in January 2008.

We look forward to meeting you personally, welcoming you at one of our events, or reading your comments on our podcasts or blog.

Would you like to discuss your queries about Jesus over coffee?

Can't find what you're looking for on this website?

Or do you have some feedback to share?

Ministry Centre:

The Difference

Tuesday November 21st, 1.30pm to 2.20pm

Hope can fuel change. Hope can change the future. The future can be different because of hope. Hope keeps our eyes on the light when all about us is darkness. But not everything we hope in does this.

Come along and consider the difference hope makes.

We'd love you to join us whether you are a believer, secular, sceptical, from another religion, or just curious.

City Forums run as a short presentation followed by discussion. Come just to listen or come to be part of the discussion.

Our speaker is Glenn Hohnberg.

Ministry Centre:

Help us climb our mountain

City Bible Forum exists because of the generosity of God through his people supporting our vision to reach the world through the workplace with the good news of Jesus.

The support of individual Christians has seen many people in our city meeting Jesus in the pages of the Bible.

But we need your help.

We have a significant financial mountain to climb before the end of the year if our work is to continue. We need to raise $70,000 to keep reaching Brisbane with the great news of Jesus.

Will you join us as we climb?

Ministry Centre:

Women, coffee & croissants

All sorts of things come at us when we're working in the city

All sorts of things come at us when we're working in the city. In the craziness of getting things done in our workplace what does God say about how we as women should live and serve him in our workplace.

Women, coffee & croissants are breakfasts held once a quarter to encourage women as they seek to live for God in their work.

Chasing life: Chasing eternity

Success in life is largely about timing.

Success in life is largely about timing. But knowing the exact right time to do anything takes great insight and wisdom.

This frustration in life pushes us beyond the simple enjoyment of life of the animals to truly achieve. But why is life like that?

Scott shares from Ecclesiastes 3 about why we've been made the way that we have.

Chasing life: Working hard

What is the point of work? Does it define us? Is work good or is it just toil?

What is the point of work?

When we introduce ourselves we often say - I'm a lawyer, teacher, engineer, but does our work define us?

Is fulfilment found in our work or elsewhere?

Is work good or is it just toil?

Listen to what the ancient philosopher of Ecclesiastes has to say
