On the road with Jesus

About halfway through his "orderly account" of the life of Jesus on earth, the gospel writer and physician, St Luke, records that "As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem" (Luke 9 v51).

The next ten chapters of Luke's narrative trace that journey of roughly 130 miles and what Jesus taught his disciples along the way until "as he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes" (Luke 19v41-42).

Through this Hope Group series, we join the narrator on that journey and hear what Jesus told his disciples. Knowing he was about to be taken from them by his death, what will Jesus focus on? What was it important for them to understand to be able to live godly lives without being able to see him? What lessons are there for us today?
