Recently I heard about a woman in China who had been fertilising and watering a cactus in her bedroom for two years only for it to break and for her to realise it was actually made of wood. Understandably, she was angry and pretty disappointed.
She had devoted her energy tending something that was fake.
It’s a shame to be devoted to something that’s fake - particularly fake or empty spiritualities.
Things which claim to offer solutions for our lives, but actually don’t really provide lasting meaning, hope or forgiveness.
This was what early Christians in Ancient Greece discovered, in 1 Thessalonians 1:9, we learn that they
turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
Fake idols were inadequate and empty compared to the true and living God.
