How did Ted Lasso get so bloated?

To be human is to experience drama
Topics

My wife and I love binging on the third season of Ted Lasso (2023) — the TV comedy about an American football coach of a UK soccer team. But something has changed in Season 3.

The episodes have become bloated. Episodes are now 60 minutes long. There's more drama and less comedy.

And everyone has daddy issues.

Critics are complaining that Ted Lasso has lost the plot. But maybe it's the other way around.

To be human is to experience drama.

A true plot-line has both laughter and sadness. 2D tropes have to become 3D characters.

In Season 1, Ted Lasso was a welcome distraction from our distress. But in Season 3, Ted Lasso gets us.

That's why Jesus entered our world 2000 years ago—to experience our human drama, pain and loss. To laugh and cry with us. To get us.

Jesus replaces our tiny story with God's bigger story for us.

But sadly, there'll be no "Ted Lasso" in heaven. Because we all know that rugby is the game they play in heaven.
