Flourishing in the Furnace Conference Session One
“I am prepared to contend that the primary location for spiritual formation is the workplace” (Eugene Peterson) Rarely a day goes by without work having its challenges. Colleagues who test our patience. Roadblocks that frustrate our work. That awkward conversation that puts us on the spot about our Christian faith.
But what if these challenges were actually for our good? That they were a key instrument God uses to make us more like His Son. Often we think God does His work of refining us in the church. Or maybe in our homes. Or with our families. Of course He uses all these places and people. But could it be that we’ve overlooked one of the key places He does this - our daily work. It is during the daily grind that we are commonly challenged, stretched, and put in situations where we need to trust God. Where courage needs to be found to share our faith. Where we feel like we’re in the furnace.
