2024 Golden Globes predictions

When to watch: Sunday, 7 Jan 2024 (US) - Monday, 8 2024 (AUS)
Honestly, the awards show has lost its appeal for me. These ceremonies used to hold a special place for our family as a celebration of all things film. The reality is that the events' polity and the artists' social agendas have diminished the value of these events. Yet, people come back every year to consider what films are the best of the year. For the Reel Dialogue team to not comment on these awards does have value. So, here are our predictions of the film categories. We won’t comment on the television categories; that should be left to the experts in that realm.
We will provide our ‘prediction’ and ‘preference’ for each category. Please send us your predictions and preferences; our team loves hearing your thoughts. Let’s have a conversation about these films.
Here are some of the details of the awards ceremony. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” leads the nominations for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards with 10 acknowledgments. One noticeable change to the ceremony is that each category now has six, instead of five nominees.
Another difference with this ceremony is the voting process. The Globes are voted on by approximately 300 journalists, as opposed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, which is populated by 10,500 film industry professionals.
Unlike the Oscars, the Globes distinguish between film genres, recognising the best comedies and musicals separately from the best dramas. What does that look like? Oppenheimer will compete for the top drama prize along with Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest, and Past Lives. On the other side of the room, Barbie will be in the best comedy or musical category with Air, American Fiction, Poor Things, May December, and The Holdovers.
There is more to the awards ceremony, but let’s get to the predictions. Did we get it right?
