You are not alone. Jesus is with you
Topics
Sometimes you can feel very alone as a Christian at work.
Do you sometimes wonder, “Where is God in this sterile corporate environment?” He is rarely mentioned in conversations; he is seemingly irrelevant to day-to-day life in the office. God felt much closer on Sunday morning, when you were rejoicing with God’s people around his word.
Stop and consider: Do you ever question God’s presence in your workplace?
Jesus is with you at work
A challenge for each of us is to remember that Jesus is with us at work every day- even when it doesn’t feel like it.
The Bible reminds us that:
1. Jesus and God the Father live in us by the Holy Spirit whether we are at home or at work. As Jesus promises to send the Spirit to his disciples, he tells them: “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23)
2. Jesus is there with us overseeing our work: Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Col 3:23-24)
3. Jesus is by our side as we seek to speak to our colleagues about him. The apostle Paul relied on God’s presence as he preached the gospel, even when everyone else had turned their backs: At my first defence no-one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. (2 Tim 4:16-17)
And after his resurrection, Jesus told his disciples:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:19-20)
So remember when you turn up at work on Monday morning… you are not alone!
Question: Where does Jesus promise that he is with us always?
Pray: Thank God that Jesus is with you at work today. Pray that you’d be mindful of this as you go about your work and as you seek to share Jesus with others.
How are you doing with… the direct approach? Have you tried the direct approach with anyone yet? How did they respond?
